Black River Fishing Trip

WHO:Boy Scout Troop 653 

WHERE:Black River Camping Trip 

ACTIVITY: Small Mouth Bass/ Catfish Fishing 

LEAVE: 5:00 amSaturdayMay 29, 2021 

RETURN: 2:00 – 3:00 pm, MondayMay,31, 2021 (Memorial Day) 

COST:$25.00/person (includes 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners) 

Saturday, May 29th:  5:00 am – Red Mt.United Methodist Church – meet at the parking lot (departing 5:15 am) All Scouts:  wear your Class “B” uniforms to travel in.   After departing  we will travel east on US 60 on to Black River.  It will be approximately a four hour trip.  

Monday, May 28th (Memorial Day):  Approx. 2:00-3:00 pm – returning to the same location.  

SPECIAL NOTE:  We need several 4-wheel drive vehicles and drivers available.

SUNSCREEN !!!  

Fishing:  Recommended fishing gear:  Rod,  2—–3—–4—– inch rubber grubs in green, brown, black.  Also, small rubber crawdads, in brown.  Lead head jig hooks — 1/16 ounce. 8lb test line. 

FISHING PERMITS:  PLEASE PRE-PURCHASE PRIOR TO LEAVING!

 AGES 1-9 ARE FREE 

AGES 10-14:   

Purchase WHITE MOUNTAIN APACHE TRIBE JUVENILE FISHING PERMIT at $3.00 per day.   

Buy permit for the following days:  Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30 and Monday May 31   

No other permits are required. 

ADULTS (anyone age 15 and older): *take ID with you 

All adults (even if you don’t fish) must purchase a BLACK RIVER SPECIAL USE PERMIT at $15.00 per day.   

Buy permit for the following days:  Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30 and Monday May 31   

No other permits are required. 

FOOD:  As a Troop, we will be cooking all our food together. Each Scout patrol and adults will be assigned to help with a different meal, which will also include set-up and clean-up.  For those working on their Cooking merit badge, take advantage of this opportunity and complete some of the requirements.   Cost per person will be $25.00.  (This includes food for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners – the best buy in town).  Also, bring extra money  for the road trip snacks on the way back. 

THE FIRE DANGER IS EXTREMEtherefore we will have a designated cooking area.  No cooking or stoves out of this area. 

BEARS:  NO FOOD OR SMELLABLES IN TENTS!!!!!!!!  SCOUTS SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY FOOD OR SNACKS IN THEIR TENTS.  This also includes any items that have any smells, such as: deodorant, bug sprays, toothpaste, soap, and suntan lotion.   ALL OF THESE ITEMS WILL BE STORED IN VEHICLES
