Copper Camporee

The Scouts traveled from Mesa to visit Sulfur, Arizona for Copper Camporee, a campout focused on learning and service. They participated in a guided program from Freeport-McMoRan, including a virtual mining simulation where they got to operate different vehicles and equipment used in real mining operations. Many Scouts also earned the Mining Merit Badge while gaining a better understanding of the industry without visiting an active mine. They were joined by a couple of other troops, which made the experience even more enjoyable. In addition, the Scouts completed a service project by removing ladder fuels, which are low hanging branches that allow fire to spread more easily, from nearby trees. Overall, it was a productive and memorable trip filled with learning, teamwork, and service.
